Conditions Where Additional Support May Be Required
For some individuals, we may need to assess your needs more closely to ensure that Victoria Wellness is the best fit for you. Our program is designed to support mild to moderate challenges; for those experiencing the following challenges, additional support or stabilization may be beneficial before joining our program:
-
- Mild Bipolar Disorder – If you’re stable on medication and not currently experiencing a manic or depressive episode.
- ADHD – Facing challenges with focus or time management, provided they don’t cause severe impairment.
- Mild Eating Concerns – Emotional eating or mild disordered eating habits that don’t require specialized intervention.
- Co-Occurring Conditions – Managing anxiety or depression alongside physical health issues, such as chronic pain, where a holistic approach may offer additional support.
If you’re in any of these situations, we can discuss your needs and determine if our program is a suitable option for you or if a different level of care may be recommended.
Conditions May Require Higher Level Support
For safety and effective treatment, some individuals may require a higher level of care before joining our program. If you are experiencing any of the following, we recommend seeking specialized or intensive care first to ensure your needs are fully supported:
-
- Acute Mental Health Concerns – Active psychosis, severe PTSD with frequent flashbacks or dissociation, or other acute mental health symptoms.
- Active Suicidal Ideation or Risk to Self/Others – Recent suicide attempts, severe self-harm, or active suicidal thoughts.
- Severe Substance Use Disorders – Substance use requiring detox, medication, or intensive addiction treatment.
- Severe Personality Disorders – Conditions such as unstable borderline personality disorder or severe narcissistic traits that require intensive support.
- Severe Depression or Bipolar Disorder – Episodes that require close medical supervision or psychiatric intervention.
- Complex Medical/Psychiatric Conditions – Conditions needing medication adjustments, crisis stabilization, or intensive monitoring such as active eating disorders and violent behaviour.
At Victoria Wellness, our priority is to ensure that you receive the right care for your situation. Once you’ve achieved stabilization, we’re happy to explore whether our Centre can complement your ongoing journey.
Do I Need to Have a Diagnosis?
No, you don’t need a diagnosis to join our program. Victoria Wellness is open to anyone seeking personal growth, emotional regulation, and life skills, regardless of whether they have a formal diagnosis.
However, if you’re already questioning whether you might have a psychiatric diagnosis, we strongly recommend consulting a licensed mental health professional (e.g., psychiatrist, psychologist, physician, or nurse practitioner) before starting with us. Gaining clarity about your diagnosis (if applicable) can help you access the most appropriate care, whether that’s medication, specialized treatment, or a program like ours.
At Victoria Wellness, we aim to complement your wellness journey, offering a safe and nurturing environment for healing, growth, and balance when the timing feels right for you.
Do I Fit the Mild-to-Moderate Threshold?
Understanding where you fall on the spectrum of mental health challenges can be an important step in determining if Victoria Wellness is the right fit for you. While we do not use diagnostic scales ourselves, we encourage you to explore these tools independently or with the guidance of a mental health professional. These scales can help you gauge the severity of your challenges and identify the most suitable level of care.
Here are a few tools commonly used to assess conditions and their thresholds:
-
- OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder): The Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS) can help identify mild (0–15), moderate (16–23), severe (24–31), and extreme (32–40) symptoms.
- Psychosis: The Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) evaluates levels of psychosis, ranging from mild (Total Score <58) to extreme (>95).
- PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder): The PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5) identifies mild (Score <33), moderate (33–49), severe (50–65), and extreme (>65) symptoms.
- Suicidal Ideation: The Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) differentiates between low risk (passive thoughts) and critical risk (active ideation with intent and means).
- Addiction: The AUDIT (Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test) or DAST (Drug Abuse Screening Test) assesses substance use severity from low to severe.
- Eating Disorders: Tools like the EDE-Q (Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire) or EAT-26 (Eating Attitudes Test) provide insights into eating-related challenges.
If you’re unsure about using these tools, consulting with a mental health professional can provide clarity. At Victoria Wellness, we’re here to complement your journey after you’ve determined whether our program aligns with your needs.
