Our Healing Philosophy

Our healing philosophy is simple. We honour diversity and integration of the whole. We believe in whole body healing – Mind, Body, Heart and Soul. We use evidence-based interventions of traditional psychotherapy, CBT, and DBT, mindfulness, and eco-therapy combined with holistic, complementary therapies of relaxation massage, Reiki, meditation, yoga, somatic experiencing, expressive and creative arts to achieve a highly integrated and dynamic healing outcome. We respect that everyone learns in their own unique way, and we are flexible, offering many approaches to create strong foundations to build healthy structures that will continue to serve you long term.

Victoria Wellness is located on the south shore of Rice Lake one hour east of Toronto, Ontario. We offer an intimate sanctuary with a uniquely designed healing program. Our beautiful, 4-acre setting offers the perfect environment for deep restorative healing.

We provide specialized therapy and recovery programs for individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, burnout and PTSD (scroll down to see a comprehensive listing of conditions we treat). Our healing facility only accommodates a maximum of 10 clients, ensuring small, intimate groups, personalized attention, and the peace of mind that comes with simply being heard. Our trauma-informed, experienced team is fully certified in their respective fields, are registered with their appropriate governing bodies, and only perform in their appropriate field of expertise.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Parts work is a therapy approach that helps clients recognize and relate to the different “parts” of their inner experience — such as protective, wounded, or striving aspects — with curiosity and compassion rather than judgment. By building a healthier relationship with these parts, clients often gain emotional regulation, self-understanding, and a greater sense of internal balance, which supports lasting therapeutic change.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on modifying dysfunctional emotions, behaviors, and thoughts by teaching individuals to identify and change negative patterns of thinking and behavior. CBT is based on the idea that how we think (cognition), how we feel (emotion), and how we act (behavior) all interact together. It is widely used to treat a variety of mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, and others.

Guided Imagery and Music (GIM)

Guided Imagery and Music (GIM), the Bonny Method, is a music therapy method using specially chosen classical music to help people access deep inner experiences, fostering healing, personal growth, and transformation through guided relaxation, spontaneous imagery, and self-exploration.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a structured, evidence-based form of cognitive-behavioural therapy designed to help individuals manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and reduce self-destructive behaviours. DBT is used for various mental health issues including emotion dysregulation, self-harm, PTSD, eating disorders, and substance use.

Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a form of energy psychology that involves tapping on specific meridian points on the body while focusing on a negative emotion or issue. EFT is designed to release emotional blocks, reduce stress, and promote emotional healing. The tapping sequence is believed to balance energy and relieve psychological stress and physical tension.

Yoga

Yoga enhances physical health by improving flexibility, strength, and balance. The practice promotes relaxation and reduces stress.

Ecotherapy

Ecotherapy (also known as nature therapy) is a therapeutic approach that emphasizes healing through connection with nature. It integrates natural environments into the therapeutic process to support mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Features include nature-based healing, mindfulness and grounding as well as exploring holistic connections to the natural world. Ecotherapy is used to address stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, and burnout, and is especially beneficial for people who feel disconnected, overwhelmed, or stagnant in traditional indoor settings.

Expressive Arts Therapy

Expressive Arts Therapy is a multimodal therapeutic approach that uses creative expression, such as visual arts, music, dance, drama, movement, writing, and storytelling to support emotional healing, self-discovery, and personal growth.

Reiki

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive energy healing practice originating from Japan that promotes relaxation, stress reduction, and the body’s natural healing processes. The practice is used to support emotional healing, chronic pain, anxiety, fatigue, and overall well-being, and is often integrated alongside traditional or holistic therapies.

Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy massage is a therapeutic practice combining gentle, often Swedish-style massage techniques with the application of concentrated essential oils. Designed for deep relaxation, stress reduction, and pain relief, it involves inhaling essential oil molecules and absorbing them through the skin.

Somatic Experiencing

These one-on-one sessions help clients feel their bodies and their emotions intimately. Through trauma-informed and sensitive guidance, clients are encouraged to lean into their sensations and feelings and discover the lessening of pain as well as the clear onset of relaxation in their nervous system. Ultimately, this treatment is highly beneficial in healing clients feel relief and a get a sense of restored optimism.

Mindfulness

At VW we promote the development of mindfulness in all aspects of daily life. Mindfulness is the practice of intentionally bringing your attention to the present moment with awareness, curiosity, and non-judgement. We offer opportunities through daily exercises, group conversations, sit spot activities, etc. combined with daily trackers and journalling exercises. Mindfulness is considered highly effective in managing anxiety, stress, depression, and emotions.

Labyrinth

The custom designed Reconciliation Labyrinth at VW is specifically included in our program for its recognized benefits of creating a state of balance and relaxation. Our unique design helps walkers ground, let go into the moment and reconcile conflicting thoughts and emotions.

Intentional Arts

This program delves into various artistic techniques, is used to help clients embrace themselves deeply in new ways that they may have previously suppressed and ignored as well as open up some new creative pathways. Clients learned to accept themselves in imperfection and with laughter, they are directed to work from their core outwards to discover themselves in unexpected ways.

Creative Arts

This class is geared toward building connection with others and helping themselves through discovery and stillness. Clients are invited to work with provided art supplies to complete various projects to leave behind, take with them and share with others.

Holistic Self Care

Clients are taught simple self-help tools and strategies to help them restore calmness and peace of mind. Techniques such as Emotional Freedom Tapping technique, how to use essential oils effectively, pressure points for stress relief, polyvagal relaxation techniques, emotional body mapping, muscle testing, breathing techniques, muscle relaxation techniques and meditation. Clients are also taught basic nutrition, sleep hygiene, and other good health practices.

A nutrition-informed menu is a thoughtfully designed meal plan that prioritizes nutritional balance, health goals, and dietary needs, often tailored to support physical and mental well-being. Victoria Wellness emphasizes whole, nutrient-dense foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, healthy fats, and whole grains. Meals are designed to provide sustained energy, support mood stability, and aid in recovery or healing. Personalized plans may be accommodated to support dietary restrictions (e.g., gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan).

A Historical Legacy of a Healing Retreat

The Victoria Inn has been home to guests on retreat and getaway retreats since it was built in 1902. This special 19th-century waterfront estate was built by Gerald S. Hayward, a world-renowned miniature painter, as a summer residence. Originally known as “The Willows”, Victoria Wellness was established in 2020 as a Mental Health and Addiction Centre to continue the fine legacy of restoring people to peaceful well-being and health.

To date, Victoria Wellness has helped hundreds get back on their feet again after having found peace with themselves, purpose in life, joy in small moments, and renewed energy to strive forward.

Victoria Wellness Signature ‘Touchstone After Care Program’

Victoria Wellness has created a new signature program that is unparalleled in supporting alumni clients once they go home. We know that clients, no matter how amazing they feel when they leave Victoria Wellness, will eventually face another challenging day somewhere down the road. This 18-week program is broken into 3 segments of 6 weeks each and is designed to help clients remember the skills they learned at VW during their stay. Each week, participants will review the skills learned in CBT, DBT, and ECO, the 3 cornerstones of Victoria Wellness. Registration is required, and it is absolutely FREE to all past alumni.
