Emotional & Physical Trauma Treatment

Trauma Treatment

At Victoria Wellness, our trauma treatment focuses on the five main types of Trauma: Single, Complex, Developmental, Historical, and Intergenerational.

What is Trauma?

Trauma is defined as an emotional shock, which can be caused by a number of factors. There are five distinct types of trauma: 1) Single, 2) Complex, 3) Developmental, 4) Historical and 5) Intergenerational. At Victoria Wellness, our clients come to us with any or sometimes, a number of the various types of trauma. The reality is we all have trauma. The impact of the trauma on our minds and bodies depends greatly on the nature, severity, and duration of the traumatic experiences, as well as our genetic make up and our early childhood experiences with primary caregivers.

Healing Together

Our clients will spend time with our Clinical Director and Group facilitator, learning about trauma, and how it affects each person individually. Many of our clients come to us with Complex Trauma, and we draw our practice from great researchers like Janina Fisher, who identified that Trauma Survivors often experience bodily symptoms and not memories. These bodily symptoms lead people to use alcohol or drugs to cope, and they can also predispose people to a variety of mental health and relationship challenges.

Trauma Treatment at Victoria Wellness

This is why Victoria Wellness offers a range of trauma treatment approaches and therapies, including EMDR and Somatic therapy to address the impact of trauma on the brain and body. Our Master’s level clinicians are lifelong learners, continually engaging in research and cutting-edge training and development opportunities.

Many people do not fully understand the impact of trauma, and the positive outcomes with correct trauma treatments and therapies, in fact, this field of study is relatively new in the world of mental health.

Trauma-Informed Care

A clinician providing trauma-informed treatment will approach their clients with a sense of respect, curiosity, and an understanding of the inherent resilience of the client. Those seeking treatment are sharing aspects of themselves and their vulnerability with treatment providers, and this is a sacred journey our clinicians are grateful to join you on.

Trauma-informed care may or may not involve telling your story, or sharing specific details of the traumatic experiences, but it will involve a personalized treatment plan, which includes building your insight into how the trauma has impacted your mind and body, and a multi-faceted approach to healing. The brain and the nervous system are capable of healing, and we have evidence-informed, change-oriented strategies to help.

The treatment you receive will occur in individual psychotherapy, skill-based group sessions, and, where applicable, EMDR. You will also have access to treatment to help calm the symptoms you feel in your body, and these include restorative yoga, meditation, mindfulness, and ecotherapy.

Our Individualized therapeutic assessments are designed for each residential client
